When we both started going to GCC, neither of us were tithing. We were "giving what we felt like giving that week" and thinking of it as OUR money. We would be focusing on the next bill that had to be paid, the next event we were going to, or the next purchase we were going to make, instead of giving to God what was rightfully His. We were the ones in the water, saying, "You can have me," while holding our wallet in the air.
A few messages at GCC were preached regarding tithing. Stubborn as we are, we often found ourselves thinking, "Here they go again." Finally, one message rang through, directly from God, who clearly told us to begin tithing! We were hesitant at first, still wanting to hold onto our wallets tightly, but we eventually obeyed and began tithing from our
net income.
We were rewarded for our obedience, and Dave was blessed with a new job. The new job challenged us to increase our tithe, and this time we immediately obeyed. Then God spoke to us again, this time to tell us to tithe from our gross income. Once we began tithing from our first fruits, Dave was once again blessed with a new job.
We went on to take the Crown Financial class with other members from GCC. God blessed us with a newfound appreciation for what God has already provided for us. Malachi 3:10 states, “’Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,’ says the LORD Almighty, ‘and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.’
” Through tithing we have grown closer to the Lord, and He has blessed us in many ways.
We are excited to see what else God has in store not only for us, but for Grace Capital Church as well. In this time of growth, and in the Greater Impact campaign we encourage others not only to listen to His word, but to obey it as well.
